The launch of this years 'Nutrition and You' Seminar Series is not far away and one of the biggest things I highlight during the seminars are the mental benefits of keeping active. I am always talking about it because exercise can keep us focussed so the busier we get the more crucial it becomes! New research published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Science and cited in Iron Man (Vol.17-1, 2010) further supports this and has identified the vital link between cardiovascular fitness and cognition where scores of intelligence testing increased after the performance of aerobic fitness. So if you are feeling stressed - remembering that stress makes you stupid - it makes sense to counteract such ill effects on your mental performance by making sure you get your daily cardio hit! |
